Sarasa Kikuchi is a Tokyo-born director, cinematographer, and multimedia artist currently based in Boston. Her work spans narrative, documentary, and experimental forms, often blending poetic visual language with social and emotional inquiry. With a background in cultural anthropology, Sarasa brings a refined observational sensibility to her cinematography merging strong visual intuition with layered storytelling.
As a cinematographer, Sarasa is recognized for her sharp eye for naturalistic lighting, precise composition, and a nuanced use of framing and texture to evoke psychological landscapes. Her work is defined by a balance between documentary sensibility and a lyrical narrative approach, making her a frequent collaborator on character-driven films. She has served as director of photography on over 15 independent short films, documentaries, and music videos. Her cinematography work has screened at festivals such as Tasveer Film Festival and Another Hole in the Head Film Festival, earning recognition.
Her directing work is equally grounded in immersive camera work and restrained visual storytelling, often exploring themes of intimacy, disconnection, and cultural identity. Known for her collaborative approach and multidisciplinary sensibility, Sarasa adapts her visual style to meet the emotional rhythm and narrative architecture of each project.
Currently pursuing her MFA in Film and Media Art at Emerson College, Sarasa continues to expand her cinematic voice through projects that challenge genre, format, and conventional storytelling structures.
